THE HAFLINGER HIGH PLATEAU

The holiday village of Hafling is located on the sunny high plateau below the Ifinger. The village is known for its marvellous views over the South Tyrolean mountains and its mild temperatures in winter. Here you will find numerous leisure activities in summer and winter and a varied offer for the whole family on your holiday in Schenna.

In summer, you can explore a wide network of hiking trails in the home of the famous Haflinger horses: The offer ranges from easy hikes on alpine pastures to challenging summit ascents with breathtaking views of the Texel Group, the Ötztal Alps, Ortler massif and the unique peaks of the Dolomites.

In winter, the Merano 2000 ski area with its 40 kilometres of wide ski slopes and snow hiking trails leaves nothing to be desired.

THE VIGILJOCH

The Vigiljoch... a refuge for nature lovers. All the beauty of nature awaits you here: Carpets of Alpine roses adorn the colourful alpine meadows in spring, mountain anemones, foxgloves and primroses in summer. The blue shining gentian is wonderful to see, wild orchids bloom below the little St. Vigilius church and the biotope of the Schwarze Lacke impresses with rare swamp and moor plants. The air on the Vigiljoch is spicy and invigorating, full of the scent of the many larch trees that make this recreational area so unique. Lana's local mountain hides another treasure: crystal-clear water springs from the rocky depths.

THE TEXELGRUPPE NATURE PARK

The Texel Group is a mountain range in the Central Alps and a subgroup of the Ötztal Alps. The group is bordered to the south by the Vinschgau Valley with the Etschtal Valley, to the east by the Passeiertal Valley and to the west by the Schnalstal Valley.

The nature park is a habitat for warmth-loving animal species such as cliff swallows, praying mantises, squirrels and ravens. However, with an altitude difference of almost 3,000 metres, the nature park encompasses almost the entire range of biotic communities and so many more animals can be observed, even reptiles such as the asp viper and the green lizard can be found here.

The nature park is also very rich in water. The Spronser Seen lakes are the largest high alpine lake district with around 10 lakes. The Nature Park House, which provides information about the area under the motto ‘Of water and light’, is located in Naturns.

Hiking tip: The Meran High Mountain Trail, which is around 90 kilometres long and can be completed in three to six days, leads through the Texel Group.
